| Story Synopsis |
Brilliant is a story about an object that has been passed from one hand to another, throughout human history. This object is said to have propelled humanity forward with its inherent power. Without this object, man would still be in the cave being hunter-gatherer, so it is said. It has been in the hands of some of the most famous and infamous people from history. Now it is in the hands of Morey Kay, an average 70 year old sub genius. Where does the world turn to for guidance? Morey is dieing and looking for an apprentice to take his place. Someone who is compassionate, insightful, wise, and.... BRILLIANT. Who is this brilliant apprentice? A Lawmaker? An Economist? A Scientist? A.... pizza deliver boy? |

| The Idea for Brilliant |
| Louis Weyrich, the screenwriter for Brilliant, originally wrote this story as a writing exercise. The exercise was to come up with a starting sequence without knowing what is going on. From there, the next part of the exercise was to move the story forward without thinking ahead. The point of the exercise was to continually be present in the current scene, as if the writer is a character in the story. If a character in the story is in suspense, then so is the writer. There is a surprise at every turn. Louis said that this was a very compelling style of writing. “It sure was a fun piece to write. I had no idea how it was going to end until I wrote the ending. In this way, the characters serve the story, the story does not serve the characters.” This style of writing is tricky. At the end, you may or may not have a story. “I do not know if I will do many stories in this style again,” said Louis. “I might try it again if my adventurous side feels the need. There are so many good stories planned for the rest of the series. I hope that everyone finds Brilliant a compelling enough story to come back for more,” said Louis.
